One Man Rush Joanne Rock Books Reviews

One Man Rush by Joanne Rock
This Murphy family saga is about Kyle.
Marissa Collins runs her own matchmaking service and she runs into single eligible bachelors all the time, she's always in the market but has her eyes on one certain man.
Kyle Murphy is a hockey superstar and single.
After he's learned who her mother is and that above all else she is taking care of all her needs he gives her a choice that will alleviate her problems and help out his new problem at the same time.
Hot steamy sex and very difficult decisions to make leave you feeling satisfied..
Also included is the girlfriend she attempted to matchmake and she's left her family home to get on with her life. She also has major decisions to make..
I read a lot and I write a lot, and right now, as we are deep into hockey season and about to start the playoffs, I can't get enough of gorgeous tough guys on skates. So, I picked up Ms. Rock's book based on the fact that I've read some of her work in the past and have respect for her. And it featured a hot, hockey player.

The book was a fast read. It took about 2 1/2 hours, but I read pretty fast. However, it was not the best book I've ever read. The language, both dialogue and internal dialogue, were very stilted. All of the characters had the same "inner voice" as far as their language and vocabulary. The heroine, while a matchmaker and seemingly well educated, had an extremely formal vocabulary even when she was teasing with the hero.

He was as plain as they come. Sees a pretty girl who's sporting the librarian look and gets his panties in a twist. Suddenly, he can't live without her. Hell, after one kiss, he can't even play hockey very well! Come on, Joanne. Give me something more to work with here.

I gave this book a 2 star rating because 1-The language/vocabulary. Nobody should have four main characters who all speak the same way. 2- It was not "blazing hot." The sex scenes were just mild. 3- The premise and the way the two instantly felt for each other felt like a cheap shot. For better Joanne Rock books, try Wild and Willing or Girl Gone Wild. In fact, her South Beach books are really fun.

Oh, and I hate the new Blaze covers that look very 80s to me.
The client Phil Goodwell placed Philadelphia Phantom hockey star Kyle Murphy on the top of his list for those he considered as a match for his twenty-four year old daughter Stacy. Matchmaker Marissa Collins attends a Phantom event at the suburban Normandy Farms Hotel to arrange an introduction between the client's daughter and the hunk on ice. However, when Marissa sees Kyle and him her, the sparks between them destroy their respective professional goal; as she loses sight of the needed lucrative fee and he loses sight of the Stanley Cup.

However, as Kyle and Marissa fall deeper into lust and god forbid love, the team makes a strong run towards making the playoffs, but the couple has problems as she panics over her need to earn money to take care of her ailing mom. Phil is upset with the matchmaker and with his daughter who is attracted to non-athlete graphic chips maker Isaac Reynolds.

This delightful "Double Overtime" sports romance is an entertaining contemporary as two couples fall in love though the hockey player and the matchmaker are the prime lead. The protagonists are a wonderful pairing with their fears keeping their relationship in peril; while the support cast is solid especially the other couple, his "Wrong Bed" family (see Riding The Storm), his teammates (especially his foster brother Axel -his tale to come) and her mom. Readers will enjoy Joanne Rock's engaging tale.

One Man Rush is book one in the Double Overtime series by Joanne Rock. I won this book in a package from a give-a-way.

Marissa Collins is a matchmaker. She loves finding a client’s perfect match, she’s good at it. In the past she has been happy with making enough of a living to get by for herself but it is no longer enough. Her mother is suffering from a traumatic brain injury and she needs a new experimental drug. Somehow Marissa has to find a way to earn the money. Her newest client’s rich father has hired her to arrange a match between his daughter, Stacy and the sexy hockey player, Kyle Murphy. If she can get Kyle to sign on and agree to a date with Stacy, she might be able to afford the medicine for her mother.

Marissa is used to placing herself in a supportive role, hiding in the background. So she always dresses in such a way to not draw attention to herself, hair pulled up, tortoise shell glasses, even a fake wedding band. Anything to keep the attention on the client and not on her. But none of that worked when she came face to face with Kyle Murphy.

Kyle plays forward for the Phantoms. He takes his responsibility to his team very seriously. To make it in to the playoffs and win the Stanley Cup is his dream. He does not do relationships. They would get in the way of achieving his goal. He could not understand his reaction, though, to the woman in the glasses, looking all buttoned up. He just had to talk to her, to touch her. He was even less prepared when she tried to arrange a date for him with someone else!

“She was an original from head to toe, oddly unassuming and obviously comfortable on the sidelines, but that was exactly why he wanted to be with her. A woman like that would never date someone just for fame and fortune.”

Kyle and Marissa thought they were so different but were they really? They both took their responsibilities seriously, they both had similar values for their families. And the chemistry between them was crazy strong. These two together were sizzling. But neither of them have the room in their lives for another person.

“I only have one expectation. I expect I’m going to die any minute now if I don’t touch you more.”

What I loved about this book is that there were actually two situations going on. Not only Kyle and Marissa but we are also getting Marissa’s client, Stacy’s story. I loved this book. I could not turn the pages fast enough. Was it instalove? Quite possibly. But I couldn’t help but to fall in love with these characters. And the hotness factor was through the roof. This was my very first book by Joanne Rock but it most definitely won’t be my last.

“We have something special here. You know it. Let’s not over think it before it even gets off the ground, okay? Why not take a chance and see how amazing we can be together.”
