Andrew agrees to completely ruin Brook's reputation for money, an act that would not only seriously destroy her chances for happiness, but also impact her younger sisters significantly. He continues with this plan for so long it's hard to root for him. And what eventually stops him isn't the realization that it's terrible to use your power over a woman to push her sexual boundaries and ruin her life . . . no, it's that he personally falls in love with her and he's just not willing to do it to *her*. No, no, no, no, no.

There are other issues with the book -- as other reviewers have noted, characters have unexplained motivations (which may be cleared up in subsequent books), act in ways that are frequently very out of character, and the author doesn't seem to understand that American women also had social expectations. Brook is presented like this wild creature who had no idea how to act anywhere. In reality, as a female member of New York high society, she'd be very familiar with certain social expectations.

Intentions of the Earl Scandalous Sisters Book 1 edition by Rose Gordon Romance eBooks Reviews

Didn't care for the weak, sometimes heartless personality of the male lead who was so easily led by others. I find that trait unappealing so lost interest early on. The other characters seemed to be inconsistent and the sisters interactions seemed too far out there, even for "Americans." That their father was a minister makes even less sense that the female lead would commit such obvious social slips repeatedly. That their Mother would take 3 daughters to London to find husbands without them having a full grasp on social etiquette was not believable as they would have had that instilled at a very young age no matter what city they lived in. 1812 was still an age when propriety was essential in both countries where their social rank was obviously higher. This is just my opinion and I know this has received several higher stars then low so read it for yourself and see. This might be exactly what you are looking for!
Andrew is in financial trouble. His "friend" offers to return Andrew's estate to hem debt free, all he needs to do is ruin the reputation of a young American girl.
Brooke's family has come to England to visit family. She is a bit wild.
When Andrew meets her, he can't help but like her and enjoys her company.
How is he to ruin her and protect her at the same time.

As romantic novels go, this is pretty basic. There are very few surprises, but it is a sweet story. You even get the beginnings of another love story between Brooke's sister, Liberty and a young minister, Paul.

I would recommend this for a nice nighttime relaxing read. I may read book 2 of the series Liberty for Paul.
This is my first book by this author and I was so pleased to read it. The story has a wonderful mix of romance, mischief and humor that I found refreshing. The plot and characters were well developed and I couldn't put the book down once I started. No spoiler alerts here but you should definitely get this book; the storyline follows a plot to discredit a family, but the gentleman has a conscience and is reluctant to totally ruin and hurt the lady in question. Her sisters are historical and they had me chuckling along. Kudos on a wonderful book in the series. Can't wait to read more from Ms. Gordon.
This book is free, so if you like Regency romances, you'll enjoy this one for sure. The Banks family is touring England, seeing the sights and visiting a relative who is a peer and quite wealthy. There are also three daughters of marriageble age, and they hope to marry one or all of them off. The three sisters are well portrayed, but I have to admit that I liked our heroine, Brooke, the best. There is a nasty duke out to ruin the whole family, and I really hate that we never find out why! He has a "friend" that owes him money, and he convinces him to pick one of the sisters and manage to ruin her reputation, just badly enough to cause the whole family to go back to America in disgrace. The friend is Andrew, an impoverished earl, desperate to pay off his spendthrift father's massive debts. And he finally agrees to do it, but then he meets Brooke - and he likes her immediately, and they are in love within days, and all bets are off. But the evil duke and other busy bodies keep stiring the pot, and you won't know how it's going to work out until the very end. This is the first book in a series, so why not try it and see what you think.

This book was my first introduction to Rose Gordon. I enjoyed it so much that I wanted to read the other two books by her. She has a lot more books now and they are must buy right nows.

In this book, there are so many good and well developed characters. There are hints at other characters and what they will be. My favorite character in the story is Ben, who is the antagonist of the story. He is instrumental in the relationship between Andrew and Brooke, although neither is too happy with him for most of the book (or the series for that matter).

I love the backstory that informs Andrew and Ben's relationship, the sometimes friendship, sometimes closer to what is currently being called "friendemies."

Knowing what comes later only makes everything in this story, foreshadowing and lesser used characters, only that much better, but this story is an awesome story all its own and so much fun to read.

I recommend giving this book and Rose Gordon a chance. You'll be glad you did.
